About

The Birmingham Jewish Recorder

The Birmingham Jewish Recorder was first published in November 1935 by the Joint Council of Birmingham Jewish Societies, and then by the General Purposes Committee of the Birmingham Jewish Cultural Society. In its final years in print, it was maintained by the Production Team of the Birmingham Jewish Recorder, through to December 2021 (Volume 86). And from this date onwards – from January 2022 – the Birmingham Jewish Recorder moved online and falls under the auspices of The Jewish Representative Council of Birmingham and West Midlands and is managed by the organisation’s Recorder sub-committee.

Throughout its 86 year history in print there was only a short hiatus in production. This was during the second world war, when it was not possible to print the Recorder from November 1938 – January 1942 due to paper rationing.
